THE LEAD:
Nichols College senior Jack Dicenso spun five hitless innings and the Bison got three hits from Nathaniel Cormier as they opened the 2020 season with an 11-2 win over Dean College in non-league baseball action on Clark University's Grant Field.

Originally scheduled for April 8, the game was moved up to fill an open date made available following a pair of games for Dean against Bard and the University of Rochester were cancelled due to weather.

NEWS YOU NEED:
The Bison pushed three runs across in the top of the first highlighted by an RBI double from Brad Ellis and a run-scoring single from Cormier.

Single runs for Nichols came in the third, fourth and sixth to give them a 6-0 lead. Dean finally got on the board when Brian Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) drove in Matthew Troy (Norwalk, Conn.) on a sacrifice in the bottom of the sixth.

Down 10-1 in the eighth, Hadden drove in the Bulldogs' other run when his double scored Troy again.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Jason Bottone (West Haven, Conn.) took the loss for Dean, tossing 2.2 innings and allowing five hits and four runs (three earned).

The Bulldogs four hits came off the bats of Hadden, Troy, Jeff Sharnick (Stratford, Conn.) and Andrew Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.).

In addition to Cormier, Kyle Bouchard had two hits and scored four runs for the Bison.

The Bulldogs are off until Thursday when they host Fitchburg State at 3:00 PM.
