Balanced Attack Leads Baseball Past Worcester State, 11-8

Ten Bulldogs recorded hits as Dean College utilized timely hitting to defeat Worcester State 11-8 on Wednesday, earning their first win of the season in non-league action in Northborough, Mass. 

The Bulldogs scored two unearned runs in the third when Matthew Troy (Norwalk, Conn.) singled in Landon Fish (New Port Richey, Fla.), and later scored himself on a passed ball to give Dean a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Troy drove in two more with a single up the middle, extending the Bulldog lead to 5-2. 

After the Lancers cut the lead to 5-4, Fish broke open the game with a two-run homer to center, scoring Jeff Sharnick (Stratford, Conn.) to give the Cardinal and White a 7-4 lead.

Dean scored three more in the sixth to increase their advantage to 10-4, before Matt Callahan (Attleboro, Mass.) iced the game with a rocket to left center in the top of the 8th.  

Brian Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) started the game on the hill for Dean, throwing four innings and allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out five.
Tyler Sargent (Gilmanton, N.H.) pitched two innings in relief, allowing two earned runs and three hits while striking out three to earn the win, his first of the season. 
Troy finished with three RBI while Callahan and Fish both contributed two. 

The Bulldogs play again tomorrow, hosting Fitchburg State at 2 p.m. in non league action.
