Matt Finke
and Hasani Williams combined for 50 points and visiting Mitchell College shot a sizzling 57 percent from the field as the Mariners picked up a huge 86-73 road win over Dean College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Williams carried the load in the first half for Mitchell, recording 20 of his game-high 28 points in the opening half, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer that sent the visitors into intermission in front, 49-41.

Finke, meanwhile, was a key cog in the second half, scoring half of his 22 points as he went 5-for-6 from the field and played 19 of the 20 minutes.

Dean held a brief lead early and was still in front 30-28 with a little less than six minutes to go in the opening half but, the Mariners got hot and went on a 15-2 spurt, capped by a Finke three-pointer that gave them a 43-32 edge before settling for the eight point halftime lead.

The Bulldogs did get as close as four at 57-53 in the second half when D'caran Anderson (Compton, Calif.) drilled a pair of deep three-pointers sandwiched around a Jordan Booker (Waterbury, Conn.) basket.

Mitchell, however, had an answer for every Bulldog run and when Leonard Williams found Jalen Benson for an inside hoop with less than seven minutes to play, the Mariners were still in front, 74-63.

Dean would get no closer as the visitors saw their lead balloon to as many as 23 when Finke scored with 1:40 left to play and the score was 86-63.

In addition to Finke and Williams, Benson had an excellent all-around game, finishing with six points, five rebounds and seven assists.

Dean was paced by Jordan Lynch-Rexroth (Harrisburg, Pa.), who ended with 17 points, while Booker posted a double-double with 14 points and ten assists. Anderson, meanwhile, totaled 11 points to aid in the Bulldog cause.

Dean is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Lesley University at 1:30 PM. Mitchell will host the Lynx on Wednesday at 6:00 PM.
