Paced by 34 points from senior guard Jordan Booker (Waterbury, Conn.) the Dean College Bulldogs overpowered Lesley University 99-92 on Saturday, earning their second New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) vistory of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bulldogs pulled ahead multiple times in the first half, but Lesley consistently rallied. After Dean led 30-21 with seven and a half minutes to go, Lesley assembled a 15-3 run to take the lead at 36-33. The two teams traded barbs over the next five minutes and entered the halftime break tied at 42.
Dean scored the first six points of the half on hoops from Booker, Joel Jones (Fayetteville, N.C..), and Kevin Clark (Miami Gardens, Fla.), to take a 48-42 lead in the early portion of the second frame.
A three pointer from senior sharpshooter D'caran Anderson (Compton, Calif.) swelled the Bulldogs' advantage to 55-44 with five minutes gone by in the period. Minutes later, an Anderson layup stretched the visitors lead to 14 with 12 minutes to play.
Lesley rallied over the next eight minutes tying the game at 81 and taking the lead 82-81 on a pair of free throws from Chase Howard. Back to back three pointers from Kyle Murphy and Scott Barlow gave Lesley an 88-85 lead with two and a half minutes to play but the Bulldogs responded, closing the game on 14-4 run.
Ozwaldo Terrazas (Odessa, Texas) made two free throws to break an 88-88 tie with a minute and half remaining, and Booker hit a triple and jumpshot on ensuing possesions to give Dean a five point cushion with under a minute to play. After a Lesley layup cut the lead to three, Booker and Tyrone Smith-McCray (Brockton, Mass.) nailed two free throws each to seal the game and give Dean the 99-92 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Booker finished with a game high 34 points while adding six rebounds and five assists. Clark added 23 points while Anderson pitched in 18. Jordan Lynch-Rexroth scored 10 points in 29 minutes on the floor.
Dean is back in action on Wednesday when they host Elms College at 6:00 p.m.
