Dean College snapped a 60-60 tie by embarking on a game-changing, 26-9 run that catapulted them to a high-flying, 107-98 win over Elms College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's basketball action on Wednesday evening.
In their second straight win, the Bulldogs shot a season-best 57.7 percent from the field (41-71) and made 14 three-pointers.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bulldogs seized control of the contest during that aforementioned run which featured nine straight points from Jordan Booker (Waterbury, Conn.) and four more from Nick Sampeck (San Antonio, Texas). And when D'caran Anderson (Compton, Calif.) muscled his way inside for a hoop and Booker knocked down another three-pointer, Dean was in front, 86-69.
Elms whittled the lead down to as few as six on several occasions, but each time the Bulldogs had an answer. After a conventional three-point play from the Blazers' Ahmad Conner cut the lead down to 97-88, the lead jumped back to double digits courtesy of a two-handed dunk by Kevin Clark (Miami Gardens, Fla.).
The visitors made one final push, getting to within six again after Connor scored on the interior with 46 seconds left but Dean sealed the win as Booker made four free throws surrounded by a layup in the final 36 seconds.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
DJ Edelen led five Elms players with 20 points, while David Lopez, Jr. ended with 16 points, five rebounds and seven assists.
Booker finished with his second straight 34 point outing, adding eight assists and Anderson racked up 28 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Dean returns to action on Saturday when they host Becker College at 3:30 PM.
