THE LEAD:
Calvin Cheek
scored 19 of his game-high 25 points in the second half to lead a hard charging New England College men's basketball squad to a 91-79 come-from-behind win over Dean College on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action.

The win for the Pilgrims gives them a season sweep over the Bulldogs and gives them a two-game lead over the Cardinal and White in the conference standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Things started off incredibly well for Dean, leading by as many as 18 in the first half after a 16-0 spurt capped by a Traijan Powell (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) three-pointer made the score 24-6 less than ten minutes into the contest.

Everything started to even out and NEC made their push as Jamal Allen hit back-to-back three-pointers as part of his 11 point first half that had Dean in front, 47-33 at halftime.

The momentum slowly began to shift in favor of the Pilgrims as they chiseled their deficit down and the when Cheek scored inside with 5:32 to play, the game was tied at 71-71.

From that point on, NEC went on to outscore the Bulldogs 20-8 as both Cheek and Stephen Fama converted conventional three-point plays, Allen connected on another triple and Cheek went 5-for-6 from the charity stripe to seal the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Cheek finished with seven rebounds and six steals, while Izaiah Winston-Brooks added 22 points and Allen chipped in with 21.

Jordan Lynch-Rexroth (Harrisburg, Pa.) led Dean with 22 points and 12 rebounds and Jordan Booker (Waterbury, Conn.) collected 21 points, nine assists and four rebounds. Kevin Clark (Miami Gardens, Fla.) added 11 points and Powell added ten points and seven boards.

UP NEXT:
Dean returns to action on Wednesday when the Bulldogs travel to Mitchell College for a 6:00 PM tip with the Mariners. NEC, meanwhile, hosts Becker College on Wednesday as well.
