Regis College swept the Dean College Bulldogs in non-league men's volleyball action in Franklin, Mass. on Thursday (25-14, 29-27, 25-21). After a dominant first set for the Pride, Dean battled valiantly in the final two sets, but came up short in both, falling 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Regis controlled the opening frame, racing to a 12-5 lead and cruising to a 25-14 set victory. The Bulldogs responded in the second set, a back and forth affair that saw the Bulldogs close the gap to 22-21 after a crucial 4-0 run. After ties at 24, 25, 26, and 27, Regis scored the final two points on a kill from Sebastian Valdes and an ace from Inelson Alves to take the game.
The third set was tied at ten and tightly contested throughout. The Bulldogs scored five of six points late in the frame to turn a 20-14 deficit into a 21-19 gap, but ultimately came up short as Regis held on for the 25-21 set and 3-0 match victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Aaron Brody (Webster, Mass.) led Dean with nine kills while also adding six digs. John Kauffman (East Providence, R.I.) contributed seven kills and six digs, while Tyler Martins (East Providence, R.I.) had 18 assists.
Dean returns to action on Saturday when they host Endicott at 3 p.m.
