Despite a pair of monster individual performances, Dean College opened up 2020 with a 73-64 setback to Anna Maria in non-league women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing by as many as 17 late in the second quarter, Dean rallied and cut their deficit to just three points in the third period but Sierra Johnson and the host AMCATS proved to be too much as they pulled away for the victory.

Johnson led all scorers with a career-best 37 points on an impressive 12-for-18 shooting while playing 39 minutes.

Amber Wilson chipped in with 14 points and 13 rebounds and Franchesca Hammond handed out ten assists in 40 minutes of action.

Dean was paced by yet another gigantic double-double from Makayla Rudder (Springfield, Mass.), who racked up 23 points, a game-best 18 rebounds and six assists.

Alexah Potter (East Hartford, Conn.) provided her third career double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, while Sadie Homer (Easton, Mass.) ended with 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday when they return to New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action with a road trip to Elms College.
