A 19-5 third quarter run blew open a tight contest and propelled the Eastern Nazarene College Lions to a 57-46 road victory over the Dean College Bulldogs in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action on Thursday night in Franklin, Mass.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bulldogs gave the conference leading Lions all they could handle in the opening period, trading hoops back and forth before the visitors took a 15-11 lead at the break.
A three pointer from Alexis Ford (Claremont, N.H.) at the midway point of the second quarter cut the Lions' lead to 20-18 as both teams struggled shooting. The visitors extended their advantage to 28-18 on a layup from Jenn Burnham, but moments later the Bulldogs responded with a three point play from Makayla Rudder (Springfield, Mass.) to close the gap to 28-21 at the half.
Eastern Nazarene dominated the decisive third quarter, outscoring Dean 19-5. Two three pointers from Sydni Oviatt helped pace the Lion attack.
Dean rallied in the fourth, boistered by ten points each from Rudder and freshman Alexah Potter (East Hartford, Conn.), but the Bulldogs could not overcome the gap, falling by 11 on their home court.
